Seeking additional exposure to and expertise in the Collaborative Problem Solving approach? Whether you're a clinician, educator, or parent, you have many training options. If you're relatively new to the model, the one-day Introductory trainings (posted at the bottom of this page) are usually a good place to start (and many can be viewed live via the web). If you're ready for the next level, there are Advanced and Certification trainings to help you further develop and enhance your skills. And if you're interested in having the entire staff trained in the CPS model in your school, inpatient psychiatry unit, therapeutic group home, or residential or juvenile detention facility, you'll want to check out the possibilities for ongoing consultation and training provided by CPSInitiative.
SPECIAL TRAININGS FOR PARENTS (co-sponsored by Lives in the Balance):
Lives in the Balance -- the non-profit devoted to advocating on behalf of behaviorally challenging kids and their caregivers and to providing free resources on the CPS model -- often sponsors special trainings for parents. Several are planned for 2012...here's the one that's been finalized (so far):
Bedford, Massachusets, October 13, 2012: co-sponsored by the Bedford Special Education Parent Advisory Council...CLICK HERE for details!
ADVANCED TRAININGS IN COLLABORATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING
Advanced Trainings for Educators and Clinicians are conducted by Dr. Greene in a group format, and provide participants with instruction in key facets of the model, video examples of its application, and model updates. These trainings are offered in various locations in North America and abroad throughout the year. The advanced trainings are for those who have had some prior exposure to the model, often through attendance at one of Dr. Greene’s one-day introductory trainings, as well as for those who have already attended a prior advanced training and have been actively applying the CPS model in clinical work or in a treatment or education setting.
Here's the line-up of advanced trainings for 2012 (and don't worry...if you can't make one of these, there are lots more coming down the pike in 2013):

CERTIFICATION TRAININGS IN COLLABORATIVE PROBLEM SOLVING
Certification Trainings provide a highly individualized training experience geared toward ensuring proficiency in applying the CPS model and training others.
Certification for Providers: This course is aimed at developing mastery in the application of the CPS model in clinicians, educators, and other providers who work directly with challenging youth and their caregivers. Registration is limited to 10 participants per training. Participants audiotape their use of CPS with actual kids and their caregivers and receive weekly feedback from Dr. Greene on their application of the model. Supervision and feedback are provided in 24 weekly, 90-minute group teleconference supervision sessions. Proficiency is assessed continuously throughout the training. Prerequisite: prior attendance at one of Dr. Greene’s Level 1 advanced trainings and access to a sufficient number of kids and caregivers to permit audio-taping of the use of the model over time. The next certification training begins in September, 2012...CLICK HERE to register...or, for more information, contact the sponsor, the REACH Institute, at 212-947-7322.
Certification for Trainers: This course provides certification in training others in the CPS model. Participants will receive instruction from Dr. Greene on effectively presenting CPS to groups and handling the questions and misconceptions that can arise in those learning about the model. Participants will videotape practice presentations in front of live groups and receive direct coaching and feedback. Proficiency is assessed continuously throughout the training. This training is open only to those who have already successfully completed the Certification for Providers.
Dr. Greene's one-day introductory trainings are an outstanding way to get started on learning about the CPS model, and below is a partial listing of upcoming trainings. If he's not speaking in your area, the trainings marked with an asterisk can be viewed live from any location via the web. Or, if you prefer to have your own copy of the introductory training, you can order a DVD or CD from the CPS Store. The workshops listed below vary in length and there may be an admission charge to attend, depending on the sponsor of each seminar. (If you're interested in having Dr. Greene speak to or for your group or organization, just use the Contact form on this website.)
